Fury rolled forth from the armies, great waves of hate and anger. In the sky overhead fire clashed with air, and battle was joined, as the forces of Hymerodraeth Heula and Niam Liad collided.

Very poignant. Poetic. 🙂

Thanks. Spent a while writing several of these last night, and I think this was the best of the lot. Glad I made a good choice.

Lovely. Now, why do I feel the need to write a comment longer than the post?
The Four Part Land on 07.08.2011
Much appreciated 🙂
It’s pretty hard to write one shorter. I think all of my comments on the story will be longer than it as well.

Bravo. Two sentences that speaks volumes. I think that’s how Lord of The Rings started.

If I ever even come *close* to LotR in my writing, I will be thrilled.

Wow. A lot of power in just a few words.
The Four Part Land on 07.08.2011
Thank you muchly.
I like to try very short pieces, and at least in my opinion, much of the power is in the formatting, because it gives shape to reader’s thoughts.
Having “Once.” on its own line, for example.

It’s amazing to me that you create such harrowing heartache in just 12 words. Wow. Very well done.
The Four Part Land on 07.08.2011
Yes, I remember you saying you wanted to pry and find out where it came from.
Sorry my dear, but some secrets are mine to be kept 😉

I love it! Simple, elegant. Excellent poem. Leaves me wanting to know the whole story 🙂

*grin* I had this discussion with another writer friend earlier today. For me, this is the whole story. Anything beyond what I put down on the paper is up to the reader to determine for themselves. Or at least that’s how I look at things.
Note this doesn’t apply to The Four Part Land, where I have a lot more material than the reader will ever see.

Nicely done. Lots implied.

Thank you 🙂

Ooh. Nice! Just enough to capture my wavering mind and make it stop and think on the few words. I love how I’ve no idea what happened, to whom, and what comes next. Makes me anxious actually, lol. *applause*
The Four Part Land on 07.12.2011
I think, more importantly, a lot happened before.
Glad it caught your eye 🙂

So pretty. I really, really like this one.
The Four Part Land on 07.12.2011
Thanks!
And there’s more where this came from, although perhaps none quite so concise.

The contrast of the two colours sets up such a striking image. Beautifully played.

Colours have moods, which makes them a wonderful device for conveying a great deal of information in very few words. But they don’t convey exact meaning, which was perfect for my purposes.

Hi James, much is left to the reader to supply here, I could envisage a whole tragedy surrounding these few words. Much going on in such a short space.
Absolutely congratulations on Tarranau, so well-deserved, and worked for.

There were a few people trying to get more out of me about the backstory. It was rather amusing to see what they were inventing around the story to make it all fit together.
